Industry Advantage:
The majority of total project cost savings is achieved during the early Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) stages of a project. The Router provides the means to quickly evaluate alternative arrangements, provide accurate MTO's and establish the most cost-effective design.
ASD has worked with Bayer Pharmaceutical on several projects in Leverkusen, Germany beginning in 1977. One of the first projects involved the expansion of an existing five story indoor facility.
Vertical pipe chases are absolutely essential for the design of indoor facilities. "Common" vertical pipe chases are generally located within a building which service all piping systems.
A main criterion for Bayer selecting ASD was the Router's ability to provide safe system separation. Several levels of horizontal pipe chases (for common support) were located above central access aisles at each building level. Process, hazardous and flammable piping systems were routed in the lower chases for accessibility while service piping was routed in the upper levels. In addition space allocation was provided to utilize common supports for the routing of electrical trays.
ASD provides space allocation for equipment maintenance and removal, which is a more critical design issue with indoor facilities. Within buildings the Router automatically determines whether it is more economical to add a floor penetration, verses routing the line to a pipe chase.
Accurate routings (and MTO's) provide early verification of piping chase sizes. Reductions in man-hours provide the much-needed time to evaluate alternate arrangements and chase locations. Once the line input is created and the equipment has been modeled, piping can be automatically routed within any arrangement.
Indoor piping on pharmaceutical applications have been generally smaller (200mm/ 8" and below) than outdoor applications and the Router has been used for piping as small as 25mm (1/4"). The piping is generally larger in the outdoor areas and is routed on pipe racks. Since the Router is cost driven, automatic batch sequencing of piping is based on size, diameter and material; providing savings in material, welds and supports.
A current industry trend is to utilize proven Standard or Modular Designs for equipment containing complex piping manifolds. An example of a standard equipment module or skid would be a reactor. These modules can be imported from previous projects. This engineering "re-use" approach is compatible with the Router.

These features make the ASD Pipe Router the only piping design software adapted to the Pharmaceutical Industry.
Interfaces:
Seamless Integration with PDS, Plant Space and PDMS:- Line lists from intelligent P&ID's and 3D equipment models can be directly imported into ASD.
- Routed piping is automatically formatted to APL files for export
Industry Client Base:
Bayer Pharmaceutical (Germany) have successfully utilized the ASD Router on several projects. Expansion of ASD licenses is scheduled during the first quarter of 2000 for an upcoming project.Foster Wheeler (UK) has a site license and uses the Router as part of their normal work-process; discussions are currently underway for implementation in the Pharmaceutical Division.
Kvaerner Process (NJ) has recently presented a project execution plan utilizing ASD on an upcoming pharmaceutical project for Merck.
ASD Solution's = Reduced MH's + Quality Design:
The ASD Pipe Router produces the optimized piping design, based on the advanced application of industry wide engineering knowledge that have been incorporated into alogarithms. The Router automatically considers engineering cost restraints including supportability and stress to select the optimal route on a node by node basis. A consistent design quality is achieved that complies with industry standards and good design practice.
The batch routing sequence is primarily determined by material costs, reducing costly welds and fittings on large diameter and expensive alloy piping. In addition to design the Router automatically generates MTO's, Isometrics and APL files for export to detail 3D CAD systems.
The Router will also afford significant reductions in engineering design efforts and man-hours.
ASD's OPD (Optimized Piping Design) Software:
ASD provides the accepted world leading software for automatic piping system design. The Windows NT version of ASD's OPD software is comprised of:
1. Pipe Router creates a computer generated cost driven 3D piping design based on industry standards.
2. Auto Plant Modeler (APM) creates a 3D model utilizing a standard equipment library. Icons provide parametric equipment types with rule based nozzles.
3. Pipe Support Designer (PSD) software performs stress analysis, support optimization and design. This can be accomplished within ASD or with lines imported from PDS.
In addition ASD provides Engineering Services contracts on-site or out of our New Delhi Office. Engineering project work has been successfully completed for Bechtel, Hitachi and Toyo both in the power and petro-chemical fields.
